The great State of Texas
Like they say here in Texas…I wasn’t born in Texas, but I came here as fast as I could (in my NaijaTex accent…haha!) …yup, that Texas Pride is real. Everything, as they say, is bigger in Texas…bigger hair, bigger ego, bigger hats, bigger bling…name it. If it needs to be done, it’ll be done big, heck yeah! Go big, or go home, they say!
I love the wide open spaces, the beautiful sunsets, and natural beauty of the Lone Star State. The great state of Texas is beautiful all round, from the weather, the food (Texas barbecue is no joke), to the people and culture. The cowboy and western way of life is def one of them.
For those of you that follow me on Instagram, I will be conducting a contest to see who has the best western inspired look, to be featured on my IG page. Repost a Texas or western inspired look with the hashtag #Naijatexchic…unleash your inner cowgirl…yeee haw!
Denim Jumpsuit Chic cowgirl style (OOTD)
This western inspired look has been a long time coming. I actually planned this look with a different outfit, which I’ll most likely post later. So, today the look is a wide leg denim jumpsuit chic cowgirl style. Jumpsuits are having moment lately, and understandably so…they are easy to style and can be quite chic and sexy when styled correctly, without looking like a farm hand or a construction worker…not that there’s anything wrong with them.
Anyways, this denim jumpsuit is almost all business in front, with a party in the back. Love, Love the halter style. there’s something sexy and liberating about wearing a halter dress or top. Perhaps its the inherent sexiness in baring a little skin (like here). The conservative neckline in front and an unexpected show in the back gives it a sophisticated look. I felt I needed a little more umph and waist definition, so I added this waist cinching fringe belt, which I also love because it adds a little playful vibe to the look.
The cowboy/cowgirl hat is the signature western accessory. Others include, the bandana, cowboy/girl boots, big buckle belt, etc. You can easily add a cowgirl vibe to any outfit by adding one or more of these accessories.
The hand bag choice is deliberate. Lauren Ralph Lauren is a fashion house that epitomizes the spirit of the American west, it was only appropriate that styled my look with this saddle style, distressed handbag. this has been my go-to shoulder bag for a quick dash to the store…you know, those time when you pray not to run into anyone you know, but invariably do. Ha!.
Alternative Styling Tips
Jumpsuits are not necessarily only for dress down days, they can be dressed up to look chic, edgy, office/dinner worthy, or just to hang out with the gals. On the other hand, if you are not feeling the cowgirl vibe, pair with a pair of nude pumps, heeled sandals and a clutch for a nighttime vibe.
Further, for a relaxed office look, pair with moccasins, loafers or oxfords, then add a fitted blazer for that preppy vibe. Alternatively, love an edgy look? then pair with heeled lace-up boots, a biker jacket and dark sunnys for that edgy tough girl look.
