Hello again loves! Good to have you back this week…
If you follow me on IG, you would discover that I have recently become a big fan of wellness teas. I find myself drinking and giant cuppa several times a day. There’s an inexplicable feeling of relaxation I get when I’m drinking tea…like I am now, while writing this post. What are they? Are they beneficial? So, today, I’m shedding a little light on herb/wellness teas. However, future posts will include details dedicated to specific teas.

What are Wellness teas?
There are many varieties of tea, and herb/wellness tea is one of them. I’ll focus on wellness/herb teas in this post. Herbal/wellness teas are made from the barks, leaves, roots of herbs and spices. These herbs of healing are the original herbs and spices that have been used and trusted by our forefathers, for generations before us. First, loose tea or teabags? It’s all a matter of personal preference. I use tea bags as a matter of convenience too.
Herbal teas, like green tea have a high amount of antioxidants that are beneficial to the body, by Acting as free radical scavengers…you know, literarily “eat up” free radicals, preventing them from damaging our cells. What are free radicals? These are molecules that are produced by our body cells during a normal metabolic process, but can become harmful if not removed. That’s a good thing right?
Wellness teas are made from herbs that are meant to help the body protect and heal. They contain antioxidant chemicals known as polyphenols, and also minerals that have preventative and healing properties to support our health.
Oolong tea, for instance, has been shown to improve metabolism, which in effect can lead to weight loss. Ginger tea, (one of my favs), on the other hand has been shown to have anti inflammatory properties, while also helping with digestion.

Because they are made from herbs and spices that contains minerals and antioxidants, wellness teas are considered as dietary supplements. Although recent modern day research, has also shown that they posses medicinal properties, these herbs have been used for centuries in Ayurveda for their holistic healing properties. As a result of their components, Herbal/wellness teas help effect a change in our body systems, by providing the building blocks necessary for the body to heal itself.

Also, wellness teas come as a single herb, such as green tea, ginger tea or a variety of herbs blended together for optimal effects. Some of these include, the three ginger tea, which incorporated root herbs of ginger, turmeric and galangal. Ginger is one of my favorite herbs. In addition, there are also blends targeting weight loss, stress relief, digestion, cold remedies, see my previous post here, and a whole host of others.
